SpaceX is planning a massive new Louisiana launch complex aimed at supporting Starship flights at unprecedented scale, as Elon Musk forecasts the company could eventually reach $3.5 trillion in annual revenue.
SpaceX is developing a major launch site in coastal Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, south of Pecan Island, after years of searching for a location capable of supporting very high launch rates. The site was selected for its Gulf Coast access, low nearby population, industrial infrastructure, fuel availability and suitable flight trajectories for multiple mission types.
Musk said Starbase Louisiana could ultimately include more than a dozen launch towers and support over 30 Starship flights per day, which would make it the largest launch site on Earth. That pace implies at least 10,950 launches per year, a figure far beyond current global launch activity and central to long-term plans for a fully reusable heavy-lift system.
The project is framed as infrastructure for moving very large amounts of cargo beyond Earth, a requirement for any serious attempt to build permanent off-world settlements. The core argument behind the expansion is that reusable rockets alone are not enough; sustained access to a site that can handle launches at industrial scale is equally essential.
The development is described as spanning roughly 125,000 acres, or more than 500 square kilometers, placing it in the same broad size category as the Kennedy Space Center and close to the land area of Washington, D.C. The plant and launch complex has also been described as stretching more than 12 miles with around 10 launch pads and a large-scale manufacturing area.
SpaceX said the project could bring around 10,000 jobs to Louisiana, with many expected to be technician, welder and fabrication roles rather than only engineering positions. The company pointed to its Starbase, Texas experience, where about 70% of the workforce is local to the Rio Grande Valley, and said it intends to replicate that approach at even larger scale in Louisiana.
Company and local officials portrayed the project as a natural extension of the state’s long-standing energy industry and coastal industrial economy. Existing roads and port-related infrastructure in the area were originally built to support offshore oil and gas activity, giving the project a logistical foundation that could reduce some development barriers.
The first visible work is expected to focus on access and shoreline stabilization, including wetland restoration and erosion control. SpaceX said launch infrastructure would require strengthening the coast and that the effort would be coordinated with Pecan Island, the state and Vermilion Parish, presenting the buildout as both an aerospace project and a storm-protection initiative.
Separately, Musk offered 2033 as his best guess for when SpaceX could reach roughly $3.5 trillion in annual revenue. That number would be extraordinary by any historical corporate standard, and bullish projections place such a milestone in the mid-2030s, with more conservative scenarios pushing it into the 2040s.
The projected revenue opportunity is not tied only to launch services. Starlink is identified as a major contributor, and AI compute is also seen as a potentially significant business line, suggesting that the company’s future scale could depend as much on communications and computing infrastructure as on rockets.
The Louisiana project signals that SpaceX is planning for launch volumes on a scale far beyond today’s space industry. Whether the most aggressive revenue forecasts arrive in the 2030s or later, the new site shows how seriously the company is building toward that possibility.
