Xanadu sets quantum deadline

Xanadu laid out an aggressive quantum roadmap, targeting fault-tolerant quantum computing by 2029 and 1,000 logical qubits by 2031. The distinction between physical and logical qubits matters: logical qubits are error-corrected and therefore far more relevant to useful computation than today’s noisy machines. By putting dates and a 1,000-logical-qubit target in public, Xanadu is inviting comparison with roadmaps from IBM, Google, IonQ and PsiQuantum. The promise is still years away, but the milestone matters because credible fault tolerance would shift quantum from research showcase to infrastructure candidate for chemistry, optimization and cryptography-adjacent workloads.
