SpaceX plans $100B spaceport
Edition of August 30, 2026 at 12:01 AM UTCFull article

SpaceX said it will invest $100 billion to transform Louisiana marshland into a company-controlled spaceport, effectively pursuing its own Kennedy Space Center with more launch capacity and less dependence on federal ranges. The scale is extraordinary even by SpaceX standards: a single infrastructure commitment comparable to multiple semiconductor megaprojects and large enough to reshape Gulf Coast aerospace logistics. The strategic logic is clear as Falcon, Starship and Starlink missions multiply: owning more ground infrastructure reduces launch bottlenecks, compresses test cycles and gives SpaceX leverage in negotiations over range access, environmental approvals and local economic development.
