IBM and Dirac target quantum hardware

IBM announced an ultra-cold modular system intended to scale next-generation quantum computers, focusing on one of the field’s hardest engineering constraints: keeping many fragile qubits stable at cryogenic temperatures while increasing system size. The modular approach matters because useful quantum machines will require more than isolated processor improvements; they need packaging, control electronics and cooling architectures that can expand without overwhelming reliability. IBM has long positioned itself as a full-stack quantum player, and this kind of hardware work is central to turning laboratory processors into deployable systems.
