The company’s founder, Wang Xingxing, had previously predicted humanoids would surpass human sprinting speeds around the middle of 2026, citing cheaper components and stronger algorithms.

Rapid gains over earlier models

The company’s earlier H1 humanoid reached about 10.1 m/s in tests in April, with Unitree itself cautioning that measurement error was possible. H1 had a combined thigh and calf length of about 80 centimeters and weighed around 62 kilograms, making it broadly human-scaled. The move from roughly 10 m/s to 12.66 m/s within about four months highlights how quickly dynamic locomotion is improving.

IPO timing amplified attention

The reveal came two days before Unitree began trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, becoming the first general-purpose robotics company to list on mainland China’s market. The company raised 6.1 billion yuan, about $95 million, with shares priced at 22 yuan. Retail demand was extraordinary, with the offering reportedly more than 8,000 times oversubscribed, a record for Shanghai’s STAR Market.

Favorable market and policy backdrop

The listing coincided with the opening of the World Robot Conference in Beijing, concentrating investor and industry attention in the same news cycle. Broader sentiment had also improved, with the STAR 50 index rebounding about 15% from an early-August three-month low. Wang Xingxing has also gained national prominence, while major backers include Tencent, Alibaba and DeepSeek.

Unitree’s manufacturing scale

Unitree said it had cumulatively produced and delivered around 18,000 bipedal humanoid robots by July, excluding other humanoid designs and wheeled platforms. Smart Analytics estimates the company shipped about 5,900 humanoids in the first half of 2026, up 170% year on year and equal to about 31% of global shipments. Chinese vendors as a group accounted for more than 97% of global humanoid robot shipments in that period.

A different approach from RoboScience

RoboScience, based in Beijing, introduced the wheeled humanoid Rex G1 for logistics, manufacturing, retail and eventually home use. The robot has 22 degrees of freedom, can handle about 10 kilograms with both arms and is designed to move and manipulate objects at the same time. It is only 540 millimeters wide, works across heights from 0.1 to 2 meters, and offers repeatability of plus or minus 0.1 millimeters, emphasizing deployment in existing facilities rather than athletic spectacle.

Realman targets live deployment and data

Realman Robotics plans to place nearly 1,000 robots into real working environments across 2026, including pharmacies, power facilities, kitchens and factory operations. Its GLN remote-control network is intended to let human operators guide robots over long distances with millisecond-level latency, turning deployments into both a service model and a data collection engine. The company says its lightweight humanoid arms have reached a mean time between failures of 50,000 hours.

Reliability remains the real benchmark

High-speed running and jumping may showcase technical progress, but disaster response, industrial use and commercial service still depend on reliability, stability and adaptability. A useful comparison point came from Figure AI, whose Figure 03 robots logged a 200-hour autonomous run processing nearly 250,000 packages without hardware failures. That kind of endurance, more than a sprint record, is likely to determine which humanoid systems win real deployments.
