Rajasthan Royals say AI tools from OpenAI are now embedded across cricket operations and business functions, shaping auction strategy, scouting, marketing, ticketing and creative production.
Rajasthan Royals described the player auction as a high-complexity process driven by competing team plans, uncertain bidding behavior and an enormous number of possible outcomes. The club said this creates trillions of combinations, making rapid decision-making critical before players even take the field. AI was adopted as a decision-support system to help staff work faster, more efficiently and with greater consistency.
The franchise said a new query tool built with OpenAI has changed how cricket information is accessed during planning. Instead of routing questions through analysts, coaches can now speak directly to a laptop and receive immediate answers. The club presented this as a major shift in workflow, reducing friction between coaching staff and data insights.
The organization said AI tools are now used across HR, marketing, sponsorships, and finance, indicating a club-wide technology rollout rather than a narrow performance project. Management described AI as part of everyday operations, with multiple departments integrating it into regular decision-making. The change was framed as a broad transformation in how the franchise works.
Rajasthan Royals said ticketing has become another practical AI application. Sales data is fed into OpenAI systems to generate recommendations on which stands are underperforming, where more marketing may be needed, and whether pricing adjustments could improve demand. The club said this helps identify weak spots in revenue strategy more quickly.
The franchise said ChatGPT image generation played a central role in visual storytelling around its 2008 origins, including content featuring Ravindra Jadeja. Internal creative teams said AI helped bring current-era players into dialogue with the club’s early identity while lowering production costs and reducing demands on player time. The stated goal was to raise output quality while accelerating campaign development.
Before the auction, the club held a student hackathon called Super Selector, inviting participants from across India to build the best auction strategy for Rajasthan Royals. The franchise said many entrants used OpenAI in inventive ways to create models and tactics, and that some of those ideas were incorporated into actual auction preparation. The winning team was flown to Abu Dhabi to present its strategy to senior cricket leadership, including Kumar Sangakkara and Giles.
The franchise’s central argument is that success depends less on simply possessing data than on using it better and faster than rivals. Staff described AI as a “companion” that improves speed, decision quality and operational efficiency in both sport and business. The club said the technology has become so embedded that some employees now struggle to imagine previous workflows without it.
Rajasthan Royals are positioning AI not as a side experiment but as infrastructure for both performance and commercial operations. The broader test will be whether this technology-led approach consistently converts faster decisions into sustained competitive advantage.
