A powerful AI model developed by Anthropic, capable of autonomously detecting software vulnerabilities, has uncovered thousands of critical flaws, raising urgent global cybersecurity concerns.
Mythos is an advanced artificial intelligence system designed to independently identify and patch software vulnerabilities. Its capability to scan large-scale infrastructures without human intervention marks a significant shift in cybersecurity practices, where automation increasingly replaces manual auditing.
In a coordinated evaluation involving 50 partner organizations, Mythos identified approximately 10,000 high-severity or critical vulnerabilities across various systems. These findings suggest a far broader exposure to cyber risk than previously understood.
Human experts have so far reviewed 1,700 of the detected vulnerabilities, confirming that roughly 90% were genuine. This high validation rate indicates that Mythos is not merely generating false positives but uncovering real and actionable security flaws.
The European Central Bank has responded by warning major financial institutions about the risks. Banks have been urged to assess and remediate vulnerabilities rapidly, highlighting concerns over systemic risk if such flaws were exploited.
Deploying Mythos within European infrastructure raises geopolitical and security issues. Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral, has cautioned against relying on foreign-controlled AI systems, advocating instead for the development of a sovereign alternative.
