Tests spread beyond Texas

The vehicles are also appearing outside Austin. In Tampa, Florida, footage showed 25 Cybercabs lined up in a parking lot, while another vehicle was seen navigating Chinatown in New York City, one of the more demanding urban environments for self-driving systems because of narrow streets, heavy pedestrian activity, bicycles, taxis, and delivery vehicles.

A purpose-built Level 4 vehicle

Tesla describes the Cybercab as a two-seat SAE Level 4 autonomous vehicle, meaning it is designed to handle driving on its own within defined operating conditions and areas. Its layout reflects that role: a spacious cabin, large center touchscreen, substantial rear cargo space, and no conventional driver controls. Unlike modified consumer cars, the vehicle is designed from the ground up for autonomous service.

Safety remains central to the design

Emergency response documentation indicates a reinforced passenger cell using ultra-high-strength steel in the A-pillars, B-pillars, and door-ring structure. That matters more in a vehicle where passengers are not expected to intervene in an emergency. The design goal is to pair full autonomous operation with the crash protection expected from a Tesla passenger vehicle.

SpaceX unveils a giant Louisiana spaceport plan

SpaceX is proposing Starbase Louisiana near Pecan Island in Vermilion Parish, a site covering about 125,000 acres or 195 square miles. That is larger than the land area of New Orleans. Plans call for an integrated Starship production and launch complex rather than a single pad.

Ten launch towers and on-site fuel production

The proposal includes five launch complexes with two Starship towers each, for a total of 10 launch towers. SpaceX also plans to produce propellant on site using Louisiana natural gas, generate its own power, build deep-water shipping infrastructure for moving hardware, and potentially add its own airport. The scale reflects an attempt to build a fully industrialized launch ecosystem.

Launch cadence target dwarfs today’s market

Elon Musk has said the site could eventually support more than 30 Starship flights per day, or over 10,000 launches per year if sustained. That would exceed the annual launch volume of the Florida Space Coast, currently the world’s busiest launch region, by more than a hundredfold. Reaching that pace would require full reusability, rapid turnaround, and enough payload demand to keep the system busy.

Starlink is an early source of demand

One key driver is Starlink, the world’s largest satellite constellation. SpaceX has already completed its final Falcon 9 mission from Florida carrying Starlink satellites, with future Florida Starlink missions set to shift to Starship. The company also sees future demand in lunar missions, Mars transport, and large orbital infrastructure.

Construction timeline and jobs

Construction at Starbase Louisiana is expected to begin next year, with a first Starship launch targeted for 2029. SpaceX says the project would create more than 3,000 jobs, while longer-term employment estimates have reached about 10,000.

Vegas Loop gains another 19 stations

The Boring Company won approval to add 19 stations to the Vegas Loop, bringing the total number it is entitled to build to 123. What began as a small network serving the Las Vegas Convention Center is evolving into a much broader urban transportation system, with planned reach across the Las Vegas Strip and toward the airport.

Why more stations do not necessarily slow trips

The system differs from a subway because individual cars do not have to stop at every station. Stations connect through separate access tunnels, allowing vehicles traveling elsewhere to bypass them. That architecture lets the network add destinations without automatically increasing travel time for everyone already using the main tunnels.
