Google unveiled new developer tools including Gemini 3.5 Live Translate, Gemma 4 12B for on-device AI, and Gemini integration in Xcode.
Google introduced Gemini 3.5 Live Translate, a speech-to-speech model capable of interpreting over 70 languages in near real time. The system preserves vocal nuances such as tone, pitch, and pacing, aiming to produce more natural translations than earlier tools. It is now accessible to developers via the Gemini API and AI Studio.
The model enables scenarios such as live presentations where speakers broadcast translated audio to audiences in multiple languages simultaneously. Participants can join sessions through a shared link or QR code and listen in their preferred language. The feature is also being integrated into Google Translate on mobile devices and is in private preview for Google Meet.
Google announced Gemma 4 12B, an open model optimized for local execution using Google AI Edge. Designed for laptops and edge devices, the model supports agentic workflows, enabling AI systems to complete multi-step tasks without relying on cloud infrastructure.
With 12 billion parameters, Gemma 4 12B balances performance and efficiency, allowing developers to run advanced AI applications entirely offline. This reduces latency and improves privacy by keeping data on-device, while eliminating dependence on continuous internet connectivity.
The model is optimized for WebGPU, Vulkan, and mobile NPUs, expanding compatibility across desktops, browsers, and smartphones. This approach aims to make local AI deployment more accessible for developers working across platforms.
Unlike traditional multimodal systems, Gemma 4 12B routes multimodal tokens directly into the core language model instead of relying on separate encoders. This streamlined design reduces complexity and improves efficiency in handling diverse data types.
Google is bringing Gemini capabilities directly into Apple’s Xcode, enabling developers to work with Swift and Objective-C more efficiently. The integration supports multi-step coding tasks, including generating code, reviewing changes, and debugging without leaving the development environment.
Developers can access Gemini in Xcode using a Gemini API key from Google AI Studio, while enterprises can connect through the Gemini Enterprise Agent platform. This allows teams to leverage organizational quotas and enforce data privacy controls.
These updates reflect a push toward real-time communication, on-device AI processing, and deeper integration of generative tools into developer workflows, signaling a shift toward more accessible and efficient AI-powered development.
