Google has launched Gemini for Home, an AI-powered platform that turns smart homes into proactive, context-aware systems for users and service providers.
Google is repositioning its Google Home ecosystem from reactive device control to proactive assistance powered by Gemini AI. The system is designed to anticipate user needs, interpret household activity, and act autonomously. This marks a broader push toward “agentic” homes that can make suggestions, trigger automations, and deliver contextual insights without explicit commands.
A new feature called camera intelligence enables smart cameras to interpret detailed real-world activity rather than basic motion or object detection. Instead of generic alerts, the system generates descriptive notifications, identifying specific actions and individuals. This allows users to receive more meaningful updates about events inside and outside their homes.
The Ask Home feature introduces conversational interaction across devices, allowing users to query their environment in plain language. Powered by updated large language models and new voice options, the system replaces rigid commands with flexible dialogue. Users can ask situational questions or create automations simply by describing desired outcomes.
The Home Brief feature aggregates data from sensors, cameras, and user-defined context to produce daily summaries of household activity. These summaries highlight key events, such as visitors or deliveries, and can be customized to match user priorities. The goal is to reduce notification overload while maintaining awareness.
Google is offering Gemini for Home as a full-stack platform for carriers, ISPs, and security companies. Through Google Home APIs and a premium subscription model, partners can integrate AI-driven features into their own services. This allows providers to offer personalized home monitoring, automation, and security experiences under their own branding.
Service providers can bundle features like Home Brief, camera intelligence, and Ask Home into subscription packages. Use cases include daily household monitoring, AI-driven security alerts, and automated “simulated presence” to deter intrusions. These offerings are positioned as higher-value services aimed at increasing customer retention and revenue.
AT&T is among the first partners integrating Gemini for Home into its Connected Life applications on Android and iOS. The company combines Google’s AI capabilities with its own infrastructure, including LTE backup, to deliver enhanced home security services. The integration leverages data from devices such as Nest cameras.
The platform emphasizes proactive protection by filtering irrelevant alerts and highlighting critical events, such as unfamiliar individuals or package deliveries. Users can respond instantly through voice or app-based commands, enabling actions like unlocking doors or activating lights. Suggested automations are also generated based on historical behavior patterns.
Google introduced an expanded Gemini Built-in hardware program, enabling partners to develop branded devices more easily. The program provides reference designs, pre-integrated components, and validated software stacks, reducing development complexity for AI-enabled hardware.
Hardware partners receive complete designs including chips, sensors, microphones, and software integration with Google’s cloud services. Developed with partners such as Amlogic, SEI Robotics, and Apical, the system aims to shorten time-to-market while ensuring compatibility and security.
The program now includes reference designs for AI-powered smart speakers, positioned as central control hubs for the home. These devices support full voice interaction with Gemini and are intended for both retailers and service providers seeking branded hardware solutions.
