OpenAI benchmarks Jalapeño ASIC

OpenAI used Hot Chips 2026 to disclose the first benchmarks for Jalapeño, its clean-sheet general-purpose AI accelerator ASIC. The move signals that model companies no longer want to be purely downstream customers of chip vendors; they are trying to co-design silicon around their own workloads, memory patterns and inference economics.
