Azure credentials expose enterprises

A credential-theft campaign targeting Azure environments reportedly hit McDonald’s and Vodafone and exposed millions of enterprise records, highlighting how cloud identity has become the new perimeter. The incident is important because attackers do not need to break a hyperscaler’s core infrastructure if they can steal valid tokens, secrets or admin credentials from customers. Large brands with complex supplier networks are especially exposed: one compromised identity can open databases, storage buckets or internal dashboards at scale. The lesson for CIOs is familiar but urgent: rotate secrets, enforce phishing-resistant authentication, monitor abnormal API behavior and reduce standing privileges in cloud tenants.
