Base 44 ranked first in a 2026 comparison of five AI game builders, posting the best combined results in 2D, 3D, multiplayer, and pricing tests.
Five major platforms faced the same one-prompt challenge in three game categories: a retro 2D platformer, a 3D WebGL endless runner, and a multiplayer trivia game. Each build had a 14-minute limit, no second attempt, and was judged on playability, style accuracy, responsiveness, published performance, and cost.
Base 44 finished with 95 out of 100, the top score by a wide margin. It was also the fastest consistent performer, producing a polished 2D game in about 2 minutes, a working 3D game in 2 minutes, and a multiplayer trivia game in 4 minutes, all with functional logic from the first generation.
In the retro platformer round, Base 44 scored 24/25 with smooth movement, clean hit boxes, retro pixel art, parallax backgrounds, and a replayable game-over screen. Lovable scored 17/25 after finishing in 2 minutes but missed the retro style, while Rocket managed the visual brief better than some rivals yet still landed at 15/25 because the result felt slower and less polished. Bolt scored 14/25 after a character-direction bug, and Replit earned 16/25 for extra features despite missing the requested look.
The 3D endless runner proved more difficult because builders had to handle depth, camera logic, spawning, and responsive controls. Base 44 again led with 24/25, delivering a functional 3.js game with procedural obstacles, a chase camera, speed ramping, scoring, and restart flow. Lovable was second at 21/25, using 3.js and strong camera views, but a persistent collision bug hurt the experience. Rocket scored 13/25, Bolt 11/25 after a first-launch error and missing player character, and Replit produced a visually ambitious but hard-to-play result.
The toughest category was the live multiplayer trivia game, where two devices had to join the same room and stay synchronized. Base 44 scored 24/25 with full avatar customization, room codes, AI-generated questions across eight categories, streak bonuses, and a persistent global leaderboard. Lovable followed at 21/25 and Bolt at 19/25, both delivering working room creation and synchronized real-time play. Replit fell to 12/25 when room joining failed in the published test, while Rocket scored just 3/25 after producing a front-end mockup with fake players and no real multiplayer loop.
Cost was judged on monthly pricing, predictability, and included backend features. Base 44 won the pricing category with 23/25: its $20 starter plan included a dual-credit system plus native database, authentication, and AI, while the $50 tier added custom domains, GitHub integration, and backend functions. Lovable scored 18/25, Bolt 16/25, Replit 15/25, and Rocket 7/25, mainly because weaker native infrastructure or variable usage billing reduced long-term value.
The final scores were Base 44 on 95, Lovable on 77, Bolt on 60, Replit on 52, and Rocket on 38. The largest gaps appeared where platforms had to move beyond a visual preview and support working controls, stable game logic, and real multiplayer behavior.
The comparison showed that game development is less forgiving than websites or dashboards. Problems such as broken physics, unreadable camera movement, missing characters, or failed room connections become obvious as soon as players press start, making games a stronger test of whether an AI builder can handle both front-end presentation and backend systems.
The results suggest that AI game building in 2026 is moving from simple demos toward usable production tools, but only a small number of platforms can reliably deliver complete browser games from a single prompt. On this test, Base 44 stood out as the most consistent option for creators who need speed, built-in infrastructure, and working gameplay at publish time.
